Our experimental artist residency began in 2015. The murals were a conduit for arts advocacy within our Hilo community, and allowed us to nurture connections between our global ‘ohana of artists and local residents, creators and keiki. These connections help establish a global consciousness and encourage our partners and participants to be mindful of their bond with their environments, via the Big Island. We immerse our visitors in our culture — through our food, partners, cultural practices, environmental adventures, and more — with the hopes that they deepen their bond to our earth and all of its inhabitants. The creative products manifested through the residency resonate with our community, reflect cultural values, and beautify our home.
The residency has evolved and is dependent on funding. We prefer to meet our artists prior to an invitation to the Big Island. Please contact us with inquiries and your portfolio, but keep in mind that the residencies are curated and project-specific.
