Yoskay Yamamoto’s ‘Pīkake Moonflower in Hilo Rain’ mural was completed during Temple Children’s 2019 Summer Residency Series and is the first public artwork of Yoskay’s ‘Moon Flower’ series. The piece references Hawai‘i’s beloved Pīkake flower and iridescent Koa butterfly, one of two species of butterflies that are endemic to Hawai‘i. Throughout the piece are a series of raindrops – a nod to the multitude of ways rain falls here – varying in color, intensity, duration, time of arrival, and angles of paths it falls.
